A taste of MSMQ Studio 0.7

2006-04-12 09:44:48 by Kjell-Åke Gafvelin

I have been quite busy the last couple of week as we have put a new system into production and I haven't been able to spend too much time on MSMQ Studio as I want. Anyhow, I have fixed some issues and added some missing features, but there are some more work I need to do before I make a new release. I expect that I will release the 0.7 version somewhere around 1st of May, hopefully sooner.

The next version I hope will feel more like a "complete" application as I will try to fix that all application and context menu items will work.

What I have fixed so far:

  • The XML view now displays XML correct.
  • Saving messages.
  • Using either binary stream or any of the formatters to when sending messages.
  • Tabbed view of message queues.

Easter trip to the far north

2006-04-24 22:57:09 by Kjell-Åke Gafvelin

A couple of days ago we got back from the annual easter trip to my fiancee's parents in Sidensjö (Örnsköldsvik). We had a really good time there as usual, they took care of William so we could rest! We really needed to rest as we have been trying to change his nightly habits to eat for almost two weeks, which hasn't been that successful... But now when we got back he finally started to sleep all night long, and we hope that he will continue with that.

Of course we did other things than resting as well. One day we went on ride with the snowmobiles to Pernilla's parents cabin deep into the woods where we had a small barbecue and enjoyed the sun.

But now I really need to start exercising again. I got completely exhausted after the ride while Pernilla's dad and her sister's boyfriend didn't even sweat a drop!

On the way back home we discovered a strange noise from the rear of the car and I suspected that it was one of the wheel bearings that was the problem. So I called a workshop in Hudiksvall and lucky as we were they had the time and the parts to fix it so we could finally get home!

Now I'm back to work again with at TODO-list which is too long, so we'll see if I have the possibility to finish the 0.7 release of MSMQ Studio until the 1st of May. Otherwise hopefully it will just slip a couple of days.

I am also thinking of continue the development on the Typed Collection Wizard to make it a "real" wizard for Visual Studio 2005 as well. And also to add a couple of new types of collections to it. But it would be great if any of you whom have downloaded it could send me a mail if you have any ideas on new features for it.

CruiseControl.Net

2006-04-26 12:07:10 by Kjell-Åke Gafvelin

We have started using CruiseControl.Net in my current project at work and I have to say I really like the idea of continious integration. I took a while to figure out how to set it up to get the latest version of the source files from Visual SourceSafe and to build it using MSBuild, but finally I got it working.

At the moment I'm still using the solution file when building, but I will soon try to figure out how to create a custom MSBuild file which is referencing the .csproj files that I want to build.

I have also installed AssemblyInfoTask for MSBuild to generate custom build numbers. The build numbers are then genereated in CruiseControl.Net using the date labeller. This generates a build number in the format yyyy.mm.dd.build although I would have preferred major.minor.yymmdd.build, but I will check later if I can figure out a way to do this.
